Construction of multi-layer geosynthetic containment systems to mitigate groundwater contamination

This paper presents the construction of multi-layer geosynthetic containment systems as part improvements to a stormwater management system mitigate groundwater contamination at coal combustion residual landfill in southeastern USA. The consisted lining perimeter ditch and sedimentation pond contain ash sediments minimize infiltration into groundwater. A composite liner comprised HydroTurf synthetic turf (i.e., 1.5-mm thick high-density polyethylene (HDPE) textured geomembrane overlain by that is covered with an infill/ballast material) underlain clay (GCL) was selected for ditch. For pond, 150-mm reinforced concrete layer HDPE geomembrane-GCL facilitate cleaning pond. selection, construction, lessons learned are discussed.
